Welcome to Anna-Bella Ritchie Photography
I was born in Hertfordshire in 1973 to a Swedish Mother and Scottish Father. At the age of 10 my parents gave me my first camera for Christmas. It was an old fashioned disc camera. (Something you cannot get these days!)
My first experience in a dark room was at school. Encouraged by my science teacher I would use the dark room in the science labs and print black and white photographs.
My Dad lent me his Ricoh SLR and from there I developed a keen interest in photography which naturally took me to art college after my exams at school. I spent a total of six years at college as a photographic student, studying a range from GCSE through to HND level learning composition, light, black and white photography, colour developing and printing and studio lighting.
Whilst at Watford college I was the lucky 1st prize winner of a student prize draw at KJP winning a Canon EOS SLR camera outfit with lens. I attended the award ceremony and was featured in their monthly newsletter!
My final end of year show, for my HND course, was held at the Malls Galleries in London.
After my studies in Aug 1997, I got a job as a cruiseship photographer working on board luxury ships taking portraits and candid shots of the guests then selling them to make commission.
I had a great time travelling and sailing to the Baltics, Mediterranean, North Africa, the Atlantic, Caribbean, Panama Canal and Central America and Bermuda to New York. I took many photos of my travels and had a wonderful time experiencing different cultures. As a result my photography is based upon travel and places, situations and events which contain architecture, people, culture, visuals, colours, abstracts and textures.
In recent years, I have photographed weddings for friends and family.
Within the last year I have discovered digital photography and am a proud owner of a Nikon SLR.
